How do I access the ligatures and alternatives for a font?

Adobe Illustrator

  • To enable standard ligatures, go to the OpenType menu (Window > Type > OpenType). Highlight the text you are working on and then select the button on the bottom left of the OpenType menu to enable standard ligatures. (The icon with the "fi" ligature)
  • To insert alternatives or stylistic ligatures, go to Window > Glyphs to open a panel displaying every character. You can insert a new character by double-clicking it. You can also replace specific characters with alternatives by highlighting it and a small menu showing the alternates will appear below the highlighted character.

Adobe Photoshop
